Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December. On that day in 1948 the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the cornerstone of the UN's work in promoting human rights and has served as the foundation for an expanding system of human rights protection.

This year, Human Rights Day is especially significant as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebrates its 60th birthday.
