People and Politics Day Europe

Unlock Democracy, with the support of the European Commission and the Ministry of Justice will be hosting People and Politics Day Europe on 18th March 2008 from 10.00am at Central Hall Westminster.

The day will be split in two, during the morning two main question and answer sessions will be held with panel of politicians and campaigners on how Europe affects peoples daily lives and the role Europe has in tackling global issues. The afternoon will be divided into a series of different debates on specific topics, ranging from crime through to climate change.

Speakers already confirmed for People and Politics Day Europe include Shami Chakrabhati (Liberty), Michael Gove MP (Conservative Party), Roger Helmer MEP (Conservative Party), Mary Honeyball MEP (Labour Party), Richard Howitt MEP (Labour Party), Beverly Hughes MP (Labour Party), Chris Huhne MP (Liberal Democrats), Charles Kennedy MP (Liberal Democrats), Theresa May MP (Conservative Party), Bill Newton Dunn MEP (Liberal Democrats), Brian Paddick (Liberal Democrat candidate for London Mayor), Jo Swinson MP (Liberal Democrats), Peter Tatchell (Green Party & human rights campaigner), Gemma Tumelty (National Union of Students), Graham Watson MEP (Liberal Democrats) and David Willetts (Conservative Party). Jon Snow of Channel 4 News will be the host for the morning session.
