Protect Freedom of Information!

I have been sending a copy of the message below that I have drafted to Peers for whom I can find contact details unfortunately I am away on holiday from Friday so my chances to send any more emails and letters will be further restricted however I would encourage readers to use facilities such as http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ to contact peers and ask them to vote against the Bill.

Dear ,

As I am sure you will be aware a Bill which seeks to exempt MPs and Peers from the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, passed its third reading in the House of Commons on Friday 18th May 2007 and will now be debated in the House of Lords.

I am writing to you to ask that you vote against the Bill being discussed in the House of Lords since I believe and hope that you will agree that there should not be one law for Members of Parliament and a different law for everyone else.

I hope that you understand that the failure of Parliament to oppose this Bill undermines legislation previously passed and simply gives people outside Parliament and the political process the impression that Parliament and Members of Parliament have something to hide.

I hope that you will vote against any Bill which would exempt Members of Parliament from freedom of information legislation.

Yours sincerely,

Adam Nazir Ahmed Teladia
