The Convention on Modern Liberty

The Convention on Modern Liberty will be a one day gathering at Institute of Education in London on Saturday 28th February 2009.

Speakers at the event include Andrew Dismore, Anthony Barnett, Becky Hogge, Billy Bragg, Brian Eno, Caroline Lucas, Chris Huhne, Christina Zaba, Christopher Meyer, David Davis, David Elstein, David Goodhart, David Lammy, Dominic Grieve, Douglas Carswell, Geoffrey Robertson, Guy Herbert, Helena Kennedy, Henry Porter, Iain Dale, Ken Macdonald, Michael Wills, Moazzam Begg, Neal Lawson, Nick Clegg, Nick Cohen, Peter Facey, Peter Oborne, Shami Chakrabarti, Simon Jenkins, Sunder Katwala, Timothy Garton Ash, Will Hutton and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.

A plenary session will be held in the morning with a panel of speakers discussing "The crisis of fundamental rights and freedoms".

There will be two sets of ten parallel sessions in the afternoon each focused on a different question relating to Modern Liberty. Their panels are being sponsored and organised by a wide range of interested organisations.

There will be a another plenary session later on discussing "Freedom and democracy after the market meltdown".

There are also plans for regional events across the UK including in Birmingham on the day of the Convention.
